Labradoodle vs. Goldendoodle

Labradoodle vs. Goldendoodle

Loyal, friendly, and adorable. Those are the main characteristics of dogs, humans’ best companions.

When the time comes to choose a dog to adopt, it’s really an embarrassment of riches, as you can’t go wrong with any dog you might choose. But who wouldn’t agree that the Labrador is the people’s favorite choice?

But even in the same breed, categories differ, and sub-breeds can be confusing, for that people always mistake between the Labradoodle and the Goldendoodle. If you’re trying to find a family dog but still confused, here are the major differences between the two.

Parent Breeds

While the Goldendoodle and the Labradoodle are similar, and people always mistake them for each other, there are many core differences between them. The first difference is the parent breeds, which are the Labrador Retriever and the Miniature or Standard Poodle for the Labradoodle and the Golden Retriever with a Poodle for the Goldendoodle.

The Goldendoodle is available in different colors like gold, brown, and red, while the Labradoodle is available in the light cream color, and black. Each dog’s colors reflect the crossing breeds of the parents.

Both dogs are present in the medium size. But the Labradoodle is slightly larger than the Goldendoodle.

There are behavioral differences that you need to be aware of before moving one of the above dogs to your home. The Goldendoodle is the social dog among the two, as it can quickly establish new relationships with family and guests, while the Labradoodle is the shy type with its introverted behavior, as it prefers remaining calm when there are guests in the house.

In the behavioral aspect, the Goldendoodle is the friendliest amongst the two, as it quickly accepts strangers, while the Labradoodle isn’t much like that as it can be a bit aggressive during the first meetings.

Some assume that the Goldendoodle isn’t aware of the concept of strangers and sees everyone as friends. Do not be fooled, though, as the Labradoodle isn’t an aggressive dog in nature, but it needs some time to accept new faces after making sure they don’t represent a threat to them or their owners.

The Goldendoodle is calmer than the Labradoodle during walks, tours, or hospital visits, and it’s great for families thanks to its friendly, responsive, playful, energetic, and gentle nature. The Labradoodle has those traits too, but in a more responsive and alert way.

Both dogs are suitable as watchdogs as both are very active with their great athletic structure, although as mentioned above, the Labradoodle is more suitable for this job, despite its fuzzy cute hair.

If you’re trying to get a dog that would perform specific tasks like pulling a load or something that requires a good physique, then you’re better off getting a Labradoodle as it’s generally stronger and more capable when it comes to physical activities.

On the other hand, if you’re trying to get a dog based on its aesthetic look, the Goldendoodle generally fits the bill as it has much longer hair that comes in both F1 and F1B coats. The main difference between the two is that the F1B variant tends to shed less than the F1.

There’s no definitive answer to that question, as it all depends on your preferences and what you’re looking for in a dog. If you’re seeking a beautiful, luxurious dog, then the Goldendoodle might just be what you need. On the other hand, if you need a family dog that’s both beautiful and active enough to be a watchdog, then you can’t go wrong with the Labradoodle.
